AsturScore, the film music website from Spain, has posted a tribute to film composer Joel Goldsmith, son of Jerry Goldsmith who was well known in his own right for scoring such projects as TV’s numerous STARGATE series, THE UNTOUCHABLES, WITCHBLADE, and HELEN OF TROY, the science fiction thriller MOON 44, the family friendly SHILOH, Steve Martin’s comedy THE MAN WITH TWO BRAINS, the bittersweet comedy DIAMONDS, and contributed to his father’s score for STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT. AstureScore asked several of us to contribute our remembrances. Joel, whose untimely passing six years ago last April 29 at the young age of 54, as one of the contributors wrote, “was not fair play…, a stroke when he was excelling, destined to reach total maturity.” We remember him, with affection and continue to admire his music, drawn from a career whose curtain had drawn all too soon.
This website was created partly to promote the book series, Musique Fantastique [Second Edition] 100+ Years of Fantasy, Science Fiction & Horror Film Music by Randall D. Larson, but more importantly is intended to be a resource for news, views, & interviews about music for science fiction, fantasy, and horror films. As an extension of the books, it provides additional material and links to further resources about this unique genre of film and television scoring. For news on the book series, scroll down toward the bottom of the home page.
