Max Aruj & Ruth Barrett to Score THE OLD GUARD 2

Serving as a sequel to the original 2020 sci-fi action thriller, THE OLD GUARD 2 stars Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, Henry Golding, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Uma Thurman. The new movie is directed by Victoria Mahoney (LOVECRAFT COUNTRY, THE RED LINE), and will premiere this year on Netflix. Theron is also producing the project with Gina Prince-Bythewood (who directed the original film), Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg & Don Granger (MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT, JACK REACHER), Denver and Delilah’s Beth Kono & AJ Dix (Atomic Blonde, Tully), as well as Marc Evans (INSTANT FAMILY, LIKE A BOSS). Greg Rucka wrote the screenplay based on the graphic novel series created by himself and Leandro Fernández.

Composers Max Aruj and Ruth Barrett are composing the new film. Aruj is a Los Angeles-based composer born and raised in Los Angeles. His recent projects include Eytan Rockaway’s LANSKY, starring Harvey Keitel, and Jonathan Hensleigh’s THE ICE ROAD, starring Liam Neeson, and Alexandre Aja’s 2019 alligator thriller CRAWL; he joined the Assassin’s Creed universe for WRATH OF THE DRUIDS (2021), and created additional arrangements on TOP GUN: MAVERICK (2022) for Hans Zimmer and Lorne Balfe. He also wrote additional music for Balfe on Marvel Studios’ BLACK WIDOW and HBO’s HIS DARK MATERIALS. Barrett is a British composer known for her unmistakably original and eclectic music, spanning feature films and high-end TV drama. She has amassed over thirty scores in her twelve years’ composing, including Liongate’s HARRY BROWN, and BBC Films’ CITY OF TINY LIGHTS, and television’s COLLATERAL (BBC),  VICTORIA (ITV), LOVE NINA (BBC),  BODYGUARD (BBC), THE TERMINAL LIST (Amazon Studios) and LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME (NBC, UK: SKY), and much more.  

The first film followed a covert team of immortal mercenaries, all centuries-old immortals with the ability to heal themselves, discover someone is onto their secret, and they must fight to protect their freedom. THE OLD GUARD 2 is a sequel to the first film (released July 2020) but its plot has not yet been revealed.
