Korean Horror Drama GYEONGSEONG CREATURE, Parts 1 & 2, Soundtrack Album Now Available
GYEONGSEONG CREATURE is a South Korean horror/thriller historical drama series that premiered on Netflix on December 22, 2023. Set in 1945, during the occupation of Gyeongseong (the old name for Seoul) by the Imperial Japanese Army, the story depicts the brutality inflicted on civilians by the Japanese forces, subjecting men and women to secret biological experiments, the rebels who rise against them, and the monster creature produced from human experimentation.
The first part of Season 1 of the supernatural horror drama, which follows an entrepreneur and a sleuth as they fight for survival and face a creature born from human greed, premiered in December and the second part of the 10-episode series premiered earlier this month and is now available to stream on Netflix. The second season will be released later in 2024.
Kakao Entertainment has released both the first and the second soundtracks for the film. The albums feature selections of the show’s original score composed by Choe Jeong In, as well as additional tracks by Lim Mi Hyun, Kim Tae Seong and Yoon Chae Young. Visit Amazon or any other major digital music services to stream/download the soundtrack.
“GYEONGSEONG CREATURE weaves elements of romance, horror, and political intrigue throughout its historical remix. And while all those themes aren’t perfectly balanced, it’s an addictive series all the same,” wrote Lyvie Scott. “Built around a desperate Japan’s tyranny in Korea near the end of World War II, it might not match Squid Game’s viewership, but for sheer entertainment value surpasses it in a way that deserves to be a monster hit,” noted Brian Lowry CNN . “The gore is intense and unrelenting — so much so that it ironically begins to lose impact. But amidst all the violence are well-developed stories of families, love and patriotism – and that’s what prevents this series from being just another horror show,” commented Jae-Ha Kim of Substack.
