Sony Releases Daniel Pemberton’s Score to SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE
Swing ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE with Daniel Pemberton’s epic, web-slinging, record-scratching, dimension-hopping original score, out today! After his zeitgeist-conquering blockbuster, 2018’s SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE, Pemberton returns to expand upon Miles Morales’ eclectic, multiversal soundscape, incorporating everything from operation tenor vocals and a 100-piece orchestra to DJ scratching, acid-house inspired Indian percussion, punk rock, techno drums, and even.. a prominently sampled goose! The film and its intricately woven, action-packed score is sure to transport you into some wildly unexpected parallel dimensions. Not to mention a brand new set of character themes for all the new members of the elite Spider Society…
Of the soundtrack, composer Daniel Pemberton says, “The Spider-Verse is the only place I can combine electronics, record scratching, an orchestra, a goose, a punk rock band, hip-hop beats, whistling and opera and have it not feel weird. As well as adapting and expanding on the musical themes and sounds of the first film, there is an avalanche of new sonics and motifs for all the characters and worlds, greatly expanding how this very unique universe sounds and connects together. Like everyone else involved with this incredible piece of cinema, I have tried to push the boundaries of what a superhero film score can be to hopefully create music like nothing you’ve heard before.” – via Soundtrack.Net
In a May 30th interview with Rolling Stone, Pemberton described his approach to this second SPIDER-VERSE movie: “Everyone’s got something very special about them in this movie. I like each Spider-Person for different reasons. There’s musically ones I like more than others, like I love using 2099’s theme. He’s got a really nice, aggressive sort of siren. Gwen’s got this very nimble, balletic, floaty synthesizer style, which is quite nice to drop on top. I think what’s interesting is taking each of these characters and having themes that are universal. The film talks about universality of being Spider-Man, and how bits that may have connected with Miles may now connect with Gwen or other characters, but in their own sonic world.”
In ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE, released May 31st, Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga. After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.
