Lakeshore Releases Ben Lovett’s I TRAPPED THE DEVIL Soundtrack

–  Randall D. Larson

I Trapped the Devil ostBen Lovett is back with another horror score, and this time it’s for IFC Midnight’s I TRAPPED THE DEVIL directed by Josh Lobo and (fun fact) produced by Film Critic Scott Weinberg. The film reunites Scott Poythress and AJ Bowen (from SYNCHRONICITY and THE SIGNAL) in director Josh Lobo’s movie that brings the “anxiety, panic, and possibly Satan” into a compelling, stylish thriller. The film also stars Susan Burke (SOUTHBOUND), Jocelin Donahue (INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 2) and Chris Sullivan (TV’s THIS IS US).

Summary: Christmas is supposed to be a time for peace and joyful family reunions. But when Matt (AJ Bowen) and his wife Karen (Susan Burke) show up unannounced at the home of his estranged brother Steve (Scott Poythress) to celebrate the holidays, they are instead greeted with a horrifying surprise: trapped in Steve’s basement is a man … but not just any man: Steve believes that his hostage is none other than the devil himself. As shock and skepticism turn to fear and paranoia, Matt and Karen find themselves facing a terrifying quandary — is Steve dangerously unhinged? Or could the mysterious stranger really be the embodiment of evil incarnate?

Lakeshore records has released a digital soundtrack of Lovett’s score, which is available on Apple Music and iTunes and all other digital music services, including Spotify and Bandcamp.

I TRAPPED THE DEVIL is now playing in select theaters and on VOD. The Scream Factory will release the film on Blu-Ray on Blu-ray & DVD on August 20th.

“Veteran indie-film composer Ben Lovett contributes a strong score.” – Dennis Harvey, Variety

“Ben Lovett’s score is more evidence that the man who sold the horror in THE WIND and THE RITUAL understands the importance of music in horror. Those two films utilized music and sound perfectly to create tension and put that feeling of dread in your stomach. With I TRAPPED THE DEVIL operating in minimalism, the music is even more important in establishing tension and Lovett’s score melds with the sound effects to create an underlying dread that percolates through the entire film. It pulses, mixing ambient noises and thudding bass.” – Gayly Dreadful
