ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY Gets an Expanded Soundtrack Release
In celebration of the 5th anniversary of the film, Walt Disney Records has released a digital expanded edition of Michael Giacchino’s score, which includes over one hour of previously unreleased music from the film and recording sessions. Recorded at Sony Scoring Stage, the score features a 110-piece orchestra and 80-person choir conducted by Tim Simonec.
Set a week before STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE, the prequal film ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY follows the group of rebels who band together to steal plans of the Death Star, the ultimate weapon of the Galactic Empire (which is destroyed at the end of A NEW HOPE; ROGUE ONE shows how that happened). The film also details the Rebel Alliance’s first effective victory against the Empire, first referenced in A NEW HOPE’s opening crawl.
ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY was directed by Gareth Edwards and starring Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Jiang Wen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed and Forest Whitaker. The soundtrack includes several of John Williams’ STAR WARS themes that are used in Giacchino’s score.
The label’s original 21-track soundtrack album was released at the time of the movie’s theatrical opening in 2016. A special 4XLP vinyl collectors set will be available for pre-order from Mondo on February 16. This set features all new original artwork by John Powell, new liner notes by Michael Giacchino, mastered for vinyl, and pressed on 180-gram black vinyl.
