Karpman Meets The Marvels
November 3, 2023
Marvel Studios’ THE MARVELS Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is set for release on November 8
Marvel Studios’ THE MARVELS stars Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani, Zawe Ashton, Gary Lewis, Seo-Jun Park, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Saagar Shaikh, and Samuel L. Jackson. The film is intended to be the sequel to the movie Captain Marvel (2019), a continuation of the television miniseries Ms. Marvel (2022), and the 33rd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). THE MARVELS begins with Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, reclaiming her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taking revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to a strange wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. This unlikely trio must team up and learn to work together to save the universe as The Marvels.
Composer Laura Karpman has composed the series music, nicely associating with her scores for the MCI’s T.V. series, 2022’s MS. MARVEL, and 2021’s WHAT IF… Karpman’s central theme from THE MARVELS (“Higher. Further. Faster. Together”) is now available at Spotify, Apple Music, and all digital platforms. THE MARVELS Original Motion Picture Soundtrack will be released on November 8, and THE MARVELS movies will hit U.S. theaters on November 10. Commenting on the track, Karpman said, “I have spent quite a bit of time thinking about what a superhero is, both musically and in my daily life. Feminist superheroes are the inspiration behind ‘Higher. Further. Faster. Together.’ The title refers to the Captain Marvel films, but here, this powerful superhero is not a solo act but part of a collaborative team. In my experience, teamwork always gets the hardest jobs done, from taking down a villain to fighting for equality and opportunity.”
Karpman creates influential, imaginative scores that push the boundaries of storytelling. Her award-winning music, spanning film, television, theater, interactive media, and live performance, reflects an audaciously creative, prodigious, fresh spirit. Karpman collaborates with the most innovative filmmakers of our time, including Misha Green, Steven Spielberg, Alex Gibney, Kasi Lemmons, Rory Kennedy, Sam Pollard, and Laura Nix, plus Eleanor, Francis Ford, and Sofia Coppola. The five-time Emmy winner’s scores span the HBO hit series LOVECRAFT COUNTRY, the 2020 Oscar-nominated WALK RUN CHA-CHA, the Discovery Channel docuseries WHY WE HATE, and she was nominated for two Emmys for her score from MS. MARVEL.
Nia DaCosta directs THE MARVELS with Kevin Feige producing. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Mary Livanos, Jonathan Schwartz, and Matthew Jenkins serve as executive producers. The screenplay is by Nia DaCosta, Megan McDonnell, and Elissa Karasik.
