Marco Beltrami’s Horror Score for THE FACULTY Gets Premiere Release from Intrada

Intrada announces the premier 2-CD release of Marco Beltrami’s 1998 sci-fi horror score. From Dimension Films, Robert Rodriguez directs a from a Bruce Kimmel story and a Kevin Williamson screenplay; the cast including Jordana Brewster, Josh Hartnett, Elijah Wood, Robert Patrick, Piper Laurie, Salma Hayek, Famke Janssen, Daniel von Bargen, Jon Stewart, Usher Raymond, many others. The story develops when some very creepy things start happening around Herrington High, and the kids make a chilling discovery that confirms their worst suspicions: their teachers really are from another planet, as mind-controlling parasites rapidly begin spreading form the faculty to the students’ bodies, it’s ultimately up to the few who are left-an unlikely collection of loner, leader, nerds, and jocks-to save the world from alien domination.

Marco Beltrami was already a veteran of the horror genre, having scored dynamic music for SCREAM and MIMIC for the same studio prior to THE FACULTY. “For this intense and violent thriller, Beltrami scores for full orchestra in a dazzling display of aggressive action music requiring the players to provide numerous techniques with their instruments, from entrances at different times and pitches to uncommon bowing techniques, horn glissandi, detuned instruments, and numerous other devices,” writes the label. “Rhythms are fierce, the harmonic vernacular frightening. In balance, Beltrami also offers undercurrents of music oblivious to the alien invasion, a musical calm before the storm. Tim Greiving provides informative booklet notes.
